Dermal Fillers & Botox are two of the most common forms of cosmetic treatments around, yet many people are still unsure of what they actually are, how they work and how safe and effective they can be. We put both treatments under the microscope to give you the lowdown.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Quite simply, dermal fillers are made from different types of materials; some are made from a substance that stimulates collagen while others actually mimic our natural body cushion called hyaluronic acid. We use dermal fillers as an injection into both the skin and deeper tissues to augment and soften facial lines and contours. Dermal fillers are versatile and work in synergy with other aesthetic applications to reduce signs ageing such as loss of facial contour, fine lines, wrinkles and deep folds.

Dermal Fillers are very popular in Manchester & Cheshire as they are globally amongst both ladies and gentleman, particularly those who want to look their best and who's the image is often under scrutiny (all of us, let's be honest!), whether at work or leisure.
Dr. Rose of the DermaKurve clinic says, "We've seen an increase in the number of clients who come to see us seeking fillers in recent years, no doubt due to the enhanced focus of the media on these treatments and their association with celebrities. My job is to ensure these treatments are administered safely, expertly and importantly, provide a personalized aftercare plan and advise to help people maintain a fresh appearance. We mostly value high client satisfaction and a long-term relationship based on trust rather than a quick fix.”
There are numerous brands of dermal fillers in use. At DermaKurve we use a small carefully selected range such as Juvéderm®, Radiesse and Belotero brands for our facial fillers, which have been used successfully in over 16 million treatments to date. We also use a more advanced minimally invasive technique to reduce any concerns people might have regarding dermal fillers. so that the recovery time is short and long-lasting effects make it the industry.
With great attention to detail and hygiene and the combination of an artistic approach and in the right hands (such as Dr. Rose of DermaKurve) dermal fillers will remain one of the most rewarding aesthetic treatments in our time.

What is Botox?
The word Botox has been used loosely to mean a muscle relaxing agent especially used in the aesthetic industry to relax lines and wrinkle. BOTOX®, however, is a brand name along with other successful brands such as Azzulure and Bocouture. They contain botulinum toxin, a substance used widely in medicine to treat a variety of muscular conditions. It works by blocking nerve activity in the muscles it's inserted into, causing a temporary reduction in activity. In aesthetics, BOTOX® has been becoming hugely popular to lessen the appearance of wrinkles, in particular, the "crows feet" area at the side of the eyes, also known as the 'laugh lines'.
Botox in Manchester and Cheshire is now the most sorts after treatment recognized as an extremely effective and safe way of treating wrinkles and cosmetically improving our appearance.
Dr Rose says, "Despite BOTOX® is well established as a safe and effective form of anti-wrinkle treatment, there still exists a few ungrounded fears. In the right hands, it's a safe and effective method of treating and preventing fine lines and wrinkles".
Are Fillers and Botox Safe?
Botox and facial fillers are very safe, according to numerous sources of research.
A study published in the journal JAMA Dermatology concluded that fillers and Botox treatments are very safe and that the number of adverse cases observed over a 3-month period covering 20,000 subjects was less than 1%. Even in adverse cases, the researchers concluded that:
"Noninvasive to minimally invasive cosmetic dermatologic procedures, including energy, neurotoxin, and filler procedures, are safe when performed by experienced board-certified dermatologists. Adverse events occur in less than 1% of patients, and most of these are minor and transient."
Dr Rose added that "when you factor in that in the hands of an experienced injector the risks are even lower, we can confidently say that Dermal Fillers and Botox are safe. I reiterate: choose an experienced professional for treatment, and you will be more than satisfied with your results from these treatments."
Conclusion
Dermal Fillers and Botox are safe, effective and low-risk procedures when administered by the right professional, and the results are often fabulous, subtle transformations that leave the client feeling satisfied and delighted with their refreshed appearance.
