Mentioning the word 'aging' is enough to send shivers up anybody's spine these days. In a fast-paced world in which we're constantly exposed to stressors on our skin the pressure for most to look their best has never been higher.
Men and women alike today both want to look their best and we all have our own personal reasons to maintain and enhance a youthful vigor to our faces. For some it is to build confidence to achieve a higher position at work or business, for others it's relationships, while for some it's simply social leisure, After all, it's the first impression that sticks, right? It has also been said that ‘image is everything’ – so why wouldn't we want our faces to look fresh and naturally beautiful?
There are 3 common problems that usually appear in the face as we age as outlined below. See if you're aware of these changes to your own face, and listen to what Dr Rose – head practitioner at the DermaKurve clinic – says you can do to treat them effectively.
Problem 1: Line, Wrinkles & Folds Appear
As we age, fine lines, wrinkles and folds gradually appear across the skin. A casual glance in the mirror can become a long pause and examination as they gradually become more prominent with time. But what causes them?
“Exposure to UV (ultraviolet light) and facial contractions of the muscles performed over a period of time in life means these sort of symptoms are inevitable and impossible to avoid” says Dr Rose.
There is also the depreciation of hyaluronic acid, a natural body cushion for the skin as well as the effect of our genetic heritage to consider.
Proposed Solution: Botox & Dermal Fillers
So if we're excessively contracting the muscles in our faces which lead to lines and wrinkles, what can we use to prevent this?
“Most of you have probably heard of the BOTOX brand which is a muscle relaxing agent. It's a very useful treatment for fine lines and wrinkles as it's able to effectively block excessive activity in the selected muscles, causing a temporary reduction in lines ” Dr Rose says.

“Dermal Fillers are also recommendation for treating fine lines and wrinkles in certain areas especially around the mouth and eyes, as they mimic natural hyaluronic acid which rehydrates the skin and supports delicate structures such as cells, collagen and blood vessels which surround it” Dr Rose goes on to say.
“A well selected subtle treatment can produce naturally beautiful results that often pleasantly surprise my patients by just how incredibly effective they are. I love hearing the feedback later when people are suddenly asking them why they look so refreshed, well and radiating confidence!”
Problem 2: Skin Begins to Lose Lustre
Ever wondered what keeps your skin looking young, moist and elastic when you're young? It's three things; hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin.
“As we enter our mid-20's, most of us notice a loss volume in our faces which keeps the skin tight. Moreover this is usually accompanied by a natural drop in collagen and elastin levels, which continues to depreciate with age” says Dr Rose.
Seeing our faces gradually drop in volume can impact our confidence, but it doesn't mean you have to accept it.
Proposed Solution: Dermal Fillers
“Once again, the substances that comprise dermal fillers can be extremely effective for reinvigorating the skin in this regard as well as giving a mid face lift which also improves the appearance of the jaw line and the nose-to-mouth lines” says Dr Rose.
“At DermaKurve and other clinics, it is common to use fillers in small subtle volumes to help alleviate noticeable drop in volume and loose skin, and once again the results can be highly pleasing and a great confidence boost.”
Problem 3: Your Face Changes Shape
Very often the most significant aspect of aging is the changing shape of our faces.
“As collagen and elasticity levels drop – our facial structures loosen and are subject to the pull of gravity and other aforementioned factors. The skin will naturally start to sag and fat collects in the lower jaw resulting in folds and jowling as we get older” says Dr Rose.
Aesthetically, however, there are solutions to keep yourself looking fantastic for your age and to slow down this progression.
Proposed Solution: Silhouette Soft
In a previous article we wrote here on this famous '1-Stitch Lift' Dr Rose explained why this is the credible solution to a face that's losing volume and dropping:
"There are two primary ways in which the Silhouette Soft treatment works" says Dr Rose. "The first is a lifting effect which is immediately visible yet discreet". This is the result of compressing and elevating tissue at the time of adjusting the suture. Once it's inserted, the doctor applies a little pressure on the treated area, which allows he / she to reshape the surface of the skin, giving the desired lift.

"The second effect - equally as important - is the regenerative effect, which is gradual and natural" says Dr Rose. Polylactic acid (PLA), which is the principle component of Silhouette Soft, acts on the deeper layers of the skin by stimulating new collagen growth which results in more lift and tightening of loose areas and therefore restoring the natural contour to the face gradually.
Alternatively we can use PDO fine threads and PDO thread lifts to help improve the contours of the face positively, as this form of Thread Lift gives us a more versatile and often individualized treatment.
